I wanted to get Andrew a video camera so that we can actually take real movies of Chloe (instead of the 30 sec. clips on our digital camera), but I knew he would probably want to pick it out himself. If you know Andrew well enough, you'll understand what I mean. He'll most likely spend many hours researching, reading product reviews, and comparing prices before he decides on the one he wants to purchase. Once he finally decides, he'll realize that the new model will hit the market in a few months, so he'll wait for that one to come out. It's a pretty intense but necessary process to ensure that we get the perfect camera!
I wanted him to have something to open instead of just telling him that he was getting a camera (how boring is that!), so I got my teacher skills in gear and made my own little camera creation. I was pretty proud of how it turned out. The lens cap was my favorite part!
Here's the video camera replica:

This is awesome! I totally understand about the quest to find the perfect....fill in the blank! I love the foil (is that what you used) camera...very creative! It sounds like you had a great time celebrating Andrew's birthday, wish we could be there, too!
NICE craftmanship Abby!
I love the creativity aaaand the forethought of all the layers of gift giving to a researcher.
My husband is just like Andrew when it comes to buying something. :) I love the homemade camera! Very creative.
You are so very clever, Abby! I loved the video camera and the lens cover is a hoot! Andrew will have fun doing all his research - we appreciate his attention to detail, right? Riiiggghhhttt! =)
